Eight years ago, I boarded a plane to Uganda with no idea how much that one trip would change my life. Ever since I was a little girl, it had been a dream of mine to visit Africa. But it wasn't until I stepped foot in Uganda that I realized God had been preparing my heart for a purpose far bigger than anything I could have dreamed up on my own. I was in awe of the joy I witnessed—a kind of joy I had never experienced before, one that wasn't dependent on possessions, comfort, or certainty. I met people who had so little, yet gave so freely without hesitation. I'll never forget sitting in the slums, sharing a meal with children who had almost nothing. Even then, they broke off pieces of their own food and insisted that I eat too. That moment forever changed the way I saw generosity, and it changed the way I saw the world.
It broke my heart to see how many people were suffering. Once I had seen it, I knew I couldn't just walk away. So I made a promise to myself: if I could leave even one person better than I found them, then that's exactly what I was going to do. That trip completely changed my perspective. For the first time, I realized that the cost of something as ordinary as a new outfit could become an opportunity that changed someone else's life.
It started with the basics, beds, beans and rice, clothes, school fees, school supplies, medical care, wheelchairs, and safe homes. Then, one child became two. Two became three. Three became four. Before I knew it, years had passed, and the little children I met in 2018 were growing into young adults right before my eyes. Watching their lives unfold taught me something I'll never forget: meeting immediate needs matters, but creating lasting opportunity changes everything. That realization would shape every decision we made moving forward.
Watching the children grow up taught me one of the most important lessons of my life: one of the greatest ways to make a lasting impact in a child's life is through education. Material things are important, and sometimes they're exactly what's needed in the moment. But they don't last forever. An education is different. It's something no one can ever take away. It creates opportunity, opens doors, and has the power to change the course of a child's life for generations to come.
That's why education became the heart of our mission.
In Uganda, an estimated 6.2 million children are engaged in child labor, and more than 4 million are not in school. Their biggest obstacle isn't a lack of talent or ambition, it's simply the cost of an education. For many families, school fees and essential school supplies are the only things standing between a child and a classroom.
The more time I spent in Uganda, the more I realized that education changes everything. It opens doors, creates opportunities, and gives children the chance to dream beyond the circumstances they were born into.
But I also realized something else: the need was far greater than anything I could meet on my own. That's when I began dreaming about a way to help more children access the education they deserved.
That dream became Lulu Robins, a natural fiber clothing brand that helps create educational opportunities for children in Uganda. I didn't want to build just another clothing brand, and I didn't want to start another charity. I wanted to create something people would genuinely love to wear while helping more children access an education with every purchase.
For the next year, that dream slowly came to life. From sketching designs and choosing natural fabrics to creating samples and building the brand from the ground up, every decision was guided by one purpose: creating more educational opportunities for children.
Today, Lulu Robins is more than a clothing brand, it's a community of people who believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn. Every piece you wear funds school fees and essential school supplies, creating more opportunities for children to spend their days in classrooms instead of working. This mission has never been about what I can do alone. It's about what we can do together. If this story speaks to you, I'd love for you to be part of it!
Together, we're creating educational opportunities, one child, one story, and one piece at a time. Our goal is to have 50 children enrolled in school by the end of 2027! We've enrolled 10 so far, with 40 more to go. Thank you for being here and for becoming part of the mission! <3
Love, Lulu
